L2O Restaurant Review

Chef Matthew Kirkley has energized this stunning, spendy and sedate dining room, tucked off of the lobby of The Belden-Stratford hotel. It’s a room filled with Macassar ebony columns, plush couches and white leather chairs, ones comfortable enough to pass a long, luxurious dining affair in comfortable repose. The touted bread service --- behold bacon-infused rolls --- endures, as does the...

Expect to fork over some serious cash for L2O's three-course prix-fixe menu and seven-course tasting menus—but if it's opulence you're after, this luxury restaurant won't disappoint. L20 sources only the finest specialty ingredients for delicacies like premium caviar paired with langoustine tartare and meyer lemon or lobster with black trumpets and truffles. Deciphering the menu may take some...

French chef Laurent Gras leads this kitchen, which gracefully swims the line between traditional fine dining and molecular gastronomy. Although L2O (pronounced "El-Two-Oh") is not afraid of a little liquid nitrogen once in a while, the tricks here are not as dramatic as they are at Alinea or Moto; the cuisine is as refined and carefully prepared as any in town. Recent offerings on the...

Fell short of my expectations and was unfortunately disappointed. It'd be hard to go back for another try. Food was good but that should be expected ambience was flat and service felt rushed - nothing to write home about...

Our second time here...we really enjoyed the tasting menu. The whole experience felt less upscale than our first time, but that's one of the things I love about this restaurant. You can dress up for a special occasion or go casual-glam and not feel out of place. Fine dining without the stuffy, uncomfortable, speak-only-in-whispers feeling. We can't wait to come back!

We were disappointed in that we weren't wowed by the food. Really had much higher expectations. Much if it was on the bland side. Especially the Pearl Meatballs. Tasted like brown rice and nothing else.
