No frills basic Japanese fare with TONS of vegan options

I think Kitaro might have been one of the victims of the Wallingford fire a few months ago (late December 2011) – so make sure to call ahead to see if they’re open/reopened. Also, they don’t tend to get a lot of traffic (I honestly can’t imagine why), so occasionally they’re closed when you think they’re open.
We’re ovo-pesco vegetarians…...

My friends and I stumbled upon this place because Rain Sushi down the street (which is amazing) was closed at the time. First of all, it was freezing in this place. Some of the items we wanted that were listed on the menu were 'not available'. We were the only customers in the entire restaurant, yet it took an eternity to get our food. In the end, the sushi was pretty lousy. I would have rather waited the two extra hours until Rain opened. I will never come back here again.
