Delicious Tex-Mex is served at this long-time South Austin diner. The environment is casual, with Mexican art and murals adorning the walls. Three separate dining areas are available, one being an enclosed patio. It offers a range of breakfast tacos, combination plates and a la carte items. Juan's Plate, the Vegetarian Plate, and the Carne Guisada are highly recommended. This popular hangout...
Jovita's is part Mexican restaurant, part nightclub, part Mexican-American cultural center. The food is okay, not great, but it's quite the place to sip a margarita while watching some of the best acts in town -- mostly country but also some Latin groups.
In Short

Great food. Generous portions. Music sounded great.
Loved dining on the patio under the live oaks.
Fun atmosphere.
Who is running this place? Horrible Service. Rancid Food.
This little restaurant has been there since the mid 90's but feels like it's been there forever. Great dance floor, awesome staff and easy access from the downtown area. I've seen so much great live music there. Worth taking the time to go there for a nice casual dinner with friends and family.

As Jovita's is really a restaurant, the music takes place during reasonable hours, usually around 8pm. The Cornell Hurd Band and Harry Bodine Trio are regulars.
An afterward happy hour runs from 4pm to 7pm Tuesday to Friday and from noon to 7pm weekends.
