The ultimate in hipsterness. Dive bar that seems as if it may be falling apart, loft spot sways during local band acts, but the loyal clientele keep it together. New comers wonder why the place has a following, the regulars don't need an explanation.

This was our go to place when we lived in the neighborhood. It's a grungy place, but that's what adds to it's appeal. Make it point to go to a Soul Call Paul show when and if he ever plays this...

Unless you're going to see a show, the bar at Velvet Lounge is free. But we strongly urge you to see the show, as you'll see bands spanning the music genres from alt rock to punk to hip-hop and...well...almost everything. Ticket prices vary depending on the day and show, but it is without a doubt a great place to take in D.C.'s constantly-revamping U Street corridor.
