I purchased my engagement ring two years ago for $10,000. I had several appraisals done by independents at that time, and all appraisers were within dollars of what I spent. I was pleased. Recently I was told my insurance broker a new appraisal was needed because metal and stone prices went up since I purchased my ring. I went to the Jewelry Judge, and was stunned at what I was told. He trashed the quality of the ring, spent 20 minutes making me feel like an idiot for purchasing it. Then appraised it for less than what I spent two years ago!
