Help us make it rightThis “hip” spot in River North, “just off” the Magnificent Mile, mixes a “swanky and modern feel” with “friendly”, “first name” service and perks like free property-wide WiFi, an on-site spa and “great drinks and dining” at David Burke’s Primehouse; “clean, simple and gorgeous” rooms are “on the small side” but have flat-screen TVs, marble bathrooms and “cloud”-like beds, and kids and pets are...
This boutique lounge fits neatly inside its boutique hotel, and you actually feel as though you've been transported to a more glamorous locale like Los Angeles or Miami. But this is Chicago all right, and even though the bartenders are stunningly hot, most of the patrons look more suburban than urban. Regardless, J Bar is best done with a date, as its earth-toned, modern lounge setting is ideal...
Yes, this lounge is just off the lobby of the James Hotel, but it's no conventioneer hangout. The low-slung leather couches, seating cubes, and flickering votive candles give it the look of an upscale urban club, and its laid-back vibe has made it a gathering place for stylish locals in their 20s and 30s. The drinks also have a sense of style. (The house martini blends blue raspberry vodka and...
In Short
Beginning with the velvet ropes outside its Rush Street entrance, everything about this lounge is sleek: low leather couches and cubes provide seating and mirrors on the walls...
Jimmy is an excellent cocktail lounge. Thoughtful cocktails expertly prepared. Chic retro decor. Outstanding staff. Great industry promo on tuesdays. Jimmy features a few of my favorite djs. If I didn't work nights I would go here more often. Very intimate venue on par with the best spots in chicago.
Adult nightlife done right. Simple. Classy. Sexy.In my 30 years, I've never experienced a spot quite like JIMMY. We got a table on NYE at it was a great decision during our couples trip. And I advise you to go if you'd like to step your game up a bit. Here are the reasons why:1. It's exclusive. Tiny, …
Very cool place if you're looking to keep a low profile. The staff is great, the drinks aren't cheap (but good), and food is reasonable. The music is spot on. Highly recommended.
I went to JIMMY on a Wednesday night a few weeks back. i was pleasantly surprised to hear a great acoustic guitarist performing. Real soulful voice (think Bill Withers meets Damian Rice)... he had some great guitar chops as well. He performed a wide variety of covers and threw in some strong …
Very underwhelming. Was told this was one of Chicago's hottest and most secretive cocktail lounges by several misleading online reviews. The craftsmanship of the drinks fell well short of the price tag, the space is more tight than cozy, and the environment isn't what you expect nor hope for when seeking a true Chicago speakeasy experience. 2 stars.
J Bar was founded in 2007, and is located at 610 N Rush St in Chicago.
The James Chicago is ideally situated in the heart of downtown Chicago, just steps from Michigan Avenue and celebrated cultural attractions such as Millennium Park.
J Bar is a refreshing alternative to Rush Street's busy nightlife. You might mistake the setting for a restaurant, if restaurants featured plush couch seating. The small lounge fronting the luxurious James Hotel gathers plenty of attention. Pass through on the weekend to hear lively conversation inside and out of the bar. Cocktails appeal to the experienced taste buds. Try the signature James...
Located in the hip James Hotel, this trendy lounge boasts an impressive array of mixers. -

As a club owner of Cabaret. I look for places outside my own establishment to hang out. Jbar is my favorite. Always a great crowd and never a dull moment. The sound system is incredible and they play a pleasing mix of hip hop and trance. Great service all around and I am always treated...
J Bar is one of the newer, stylish lounges to open in Chicago. The clientele is mostly young professionals, some of whom are staying upstairs in the James Hotel. Celebrity bartenders create inspiring concoctions. Try one of the martinis on for size or order a bottle of champagne for your table. Don't worry about finding a parking spot in one of the hottest night-spots in town, a hotel valet...
The tables are in limited quantity, so you'll have to phone in reservations to hold one. There is a one-drink minimum per table.
Bottle service excels here, where pampered guests can choose their liquor, mixers and condiments from a menu that features smart choices like old-school mini bottles of Coke, chocolate covered strawberries, and spirits in half bottles.
From 7pm to 10pm nightly, appetizers from the hotel's restaurant, David Burke's Primehouse, are available.
Valet parking is steep at $40 a day; guests are better off taking a cab or public transportation.
