Review: JaxKitchen

A new eatery that bills its fare as “Modern Comfort Food” spurs the questions of just how modern and just how comfort-foody?

With just the right blend of culinary inventiveness, upbeat energy, and value, Jax serves up modern comfort food in a cozy, sophisticated setting more reminiscent of Chicago or Boston than the Sonoran Desert. Their unique versions of "street tacos" (made with duck confit and corn with chile cream) and tomato soup with grilled Brie and Gruyère cheeses are heavenly, and the daily fish entrée is...

JAX Kitchen is something of a French bistro gone global, with dishes showing the influence of cuisines from around the world. The salmon might be tandoori style, while the duck confit might be served in a salad with beets, apples, pears, blue cheese, and pickled-cranberry vinaigrette. However, despite the global influences, the menu also contains some wonderful comfort foods, including a whole...

jaxKitchen Restaurant Review

This Cottonwood Plaza bistro marries homey favorites with modern sensibilities. The fries are reminiscent of Belgian frites. Enjoy them on their own or with steamed mussels “vindaloo,” bright with Eastern spices and a splash of lemon. We also suggest starting with the roasted beet salad with a taste of Humboldt Fog goat cheese followed by the rib-eye dinner for two with tender beef and a choice...

Very Eclectic

The atmosphere is not "upscale", but the food was different because the combinations were not the usual. We absolutely loved it. The Basil Granita Margarita was to die for...seriously. Service was fabulous...I would definitely go back the next time I'm in Tucson.

Amazing! Had the privilege to eat here tonight, and in addition to the outstanding food, the whole darn staff was stellar!

Not that Amazing

Was expecting amazing food and a fun upscale atmosphere. Although I had fantastic company and great service, the food was "ok". We ordered the "chefs board", what I expected based on reviews was a mouth watering experience. What I got was passable, not horrible, but certainly not amazing. I'm thinking a trip to any local farmers market could have secured...

3 Words: Red. Velvet. Cake

Food was very good, and service was spectacular, but it is the red velvet cake that merits this 5-star review! The best red velvet cake I have ever had! Dinner was unique and flavorful, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was great for a date night. Portions are large, so remember to save room for dessert! I...

Jax Kitchen was founded in 2009. Jax Kitchen specializes in Eating Places.

Opened in August of 2008, jax kitchen is the "big brother" to the The Abby near Ventana Canyon. Jax kitchen is a culinary breath of fresh air featuring the favorite foods of the owner and chef Virginia "Ginny" Wooters where our intimate setting is perfect foe any occasion.

Jax Kitchen is a breath of fresh air in Tucson's already-thriving culinary scene. The consistency of the food and atmosphere here is one of the main draws, the menu offering an inventive and always-delicious take on American classics with European flair and Southwest-infused flavors. The Duck Confit Street Tacos offer a revelatory melding of Old World ingredients with New World flavors, and the...

Voted "best new restaurant" and a "top 5 restaurant" in 2009, this intimate restaurant serves modern comfort food with european flair. Enjoy one of the 45 wines in the house, or award-winning cocktails for lunch or dinner! Can't wait to see you.

This eatery, serving what it dubs "modern comfort food," opened in August 2008. You'll find it packed at night, even on a weekday: It's just that good. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable and the seasonal menu is focused and executed with consistency. Its eclectic, ever-evolving menu has included steamed mussels, a Kobe burger and some of the best duck leg confit we've had. The wine...
