Inspired by the frijoles de la olla, chili cilantro slaw, salsas and hand-stretched flour tortillas. Appetizers will feature ceviches, quesadillas and bar snacks in innovative preparations. The menus rely heavily on the restaurant's longstanding relationship with local gardeners to showcase the freshest and best ingredients of the region.
This is the causual sibling to chef Janos Wilder’s Janos. Be the early bird at J Bar's happy hour (5 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays) to catch his signature J Dawg, an upscale take on the Sonoran hot dog topped with smoked poblano crema, pickled cactus, whole-grain mustard and chorizo black beans. The regular menu is also a hit with jerked pork with cranberry habanero chutney and a dark...
The SceneChef Janos Wilder practically invented nouvelle Southwestern cuisine. By fusing classic French techniques with locally grown ingredients, Janos produces outstanding seasonal menus. The restaurant's furnishings are as…
For more than 25 years, French-trained chef Janos Wilder has wowed his guests with innovative fare. Wilder was a proponent of using the local bounty long before the term “locavore” was coined. Winter brings lamb from the heart of Mexico, which comes with a mole made with ingredients from NativeSeeds/SEARCH, an organization that saves heritage local foods. During the summer, perhaps the chilled...
Located in the same building as Janos Wilder’s namesake restaurant, J Bar is the chef's more casual (but still chic) sibling. J Bar offers a modern take on Mexican cuisine, much of it inspired by Sonora, Arizona’s Mexican neighbor. Antojitos, or appetizers, include a killer guacamole or a luscious autumn squash soup with caramelized apple and pomegranate. Entrées might include the Janos combo...
Janos Wilder, Tucson's most celebrated chef, is not only a world-class chef, but a real sweetheart, too. Should you happen to bump into him while dining here, he'll make you feel as though you've been a regular at his restaurant for years. It is this conviviality -- which spills over into all aspects of a meal here -- that makes this one of my favorite restaurants in the state. Consequently,...
I have been to two Christmas Eve dinners here. They are good and the atmosphere is nice, but perhaps it is good for a one-time experience, because there did not seem to be a big difference from one year to the next.
Tried to go to lunch to an old favorite, only to find out that J-Bar and it's sister restaurant, Janos, have been closed for a few weeks and are not reopening.
This great hang out will be sorely missed, but if you are a fan of Chef Janos Wilder, try to get to Downtown Kitchen. You won't get to see...
what a difference from my usual experiences here. guess it had to do with it being their last day. I had never had poor service here until last night and tonight. :(
Sorry tosee Janos close. The reastruant will be missed. ALWAYS excellent food and service. A bit expensive.
After 30 astounding years, Janos closed its doors. We were lucky enough to eat there its final evening, and as usual, the service and food were delectable. This was the last restaurant in Tucson that provided thorough old-school service, where any whim and detail was efficiently addressed with the utmost skill. The owner chef, Janos Wilder, still runs a fantastic restaurant in the downtown area...
