Help us make it rightThe tempting menu and cocktail list at this Lincoln Square storefront give way to a so-so dining experience, yet somehow the place is seemingly always full. Billed as a Southwest Grill, dishes like their spot-lit Goat Cheese Enchiladas lack flavor and nuance that, like most offerings at Jack Rabbit, fall short of inspiring. Margaritas and mojitos are paired with a Spanish-influenced wine list,...

Great food and service - even though the name of the restaurant keeps changing. You must try the bread pudding - it's heavenly and sinful at the same time & some of the best (outside of New Orleans, that is).
I had heard about jack Rabbit from a few friends so recently went in and gave it a try. I was not as impressed as many others seem to be. Lets start by saying I probably went with too many people (I was with a group of 6) and waited over 40 minutes. The place is very small and does not cater well to large groups. I started with the Tortilla Soup and it was ordinary to say the least. The steak fajitas were good and the meat was well seasoned and well cooked, it was the lone bright spot besides the company I kept. I also sampled a watermelon ceviche that was very bland.

Innovative dishes, a bit unusual. It was empty when we were there, not loud.
The service is bad. The food is mediocre at best, and desserts are terrible. They ran out of half the menu (7:00 on a wed. night) - - including cream for our coffee!! This place is awful and won't be open for long.

Low-key couples and families sit at glass-topped tables, while servers mosey through the room. The FoodToucan's Caribbean fare is straightforward and...
Margaritas---you have a choice of two---are delicious. Both use blanco tequila, one a little better than the other, and freshly pressed lime juice. The difference remains in Grand Marnier vs. Cointreau; happily, there is no wrong answer.
If possible, shoot for a table around the corner of the l-shaped dining room. This way you are out of the draft from the entrance and situated to look around the whole space.
Sunday brunch is popular, featuring sweet waffle creations and lots of Mexican egg dishes. Come early though--tables fill quickly.
A liquor license is in the works, with specialty cocktails like the Toucan-tini. For now, bring your own wine or beer, or sip on a fruit smoothie or strawberry lemonade.
Jack Rabbit comes via the same owners as the former Brioso, hence the similarity in concept. The idea was to close Brioso for a week or so, then tweak the idea into something that fit the neighborhood a little better.
