More Tokyo street chic than standard sushi house, this izakaya—the Japanese equivalent of a bar with appetizers—with bamboo-screen booths serves up surprising fare, from chicken tartare to wonderful yakitori, skewers such as bacon-wrapped enoki, bacon-wrapped mushrooms, and pork belly. (Anything skewered here is sure to please.) Dinner beats lunch at Ippuku, and savvy diners make reservations...

"Live dangerously" at this "friendly" Japanese izakaya near the Downtown Berkeley BART station, where "two guys and a hibachi" reward "adventurous eaters" with "amazing" yakitori and other dishes featuring "various chicken parts" that might "challenge" your "comfort zone"; just "bring plenty of yen", as the fare and the "interesting" shochus and sakes that "go with them" can "add up quickly."

Why did we dine here? – Ippuku is a Japanese Izakaya style restaurant in downtown Berkeley focused on serving yakitori skewers cooked on robata charcoal grill, soba, ramen, and other dishes in an interesting but narrow dining hall. They have a good selection of sake, shouchu, beer and other spirits. They are located on Center street in a long row of restaurants, a block from UC Berkeley.

Ippuku transports you to Japan- small but inviting with subtle lighting and an evening on the town flair. Cozy tables invite romance and mystique. The menu items include serious must haves- dungeness crab croquettes and bacon wrapped mochi. The server was very helpful with menu selection and portions to share.

It sounded nice to go to a place and have various yakitori (skewers) but the expectation has not been met. The food was very well cooked but it was not food to die for or to remember for ever. So I would recommend it to people since the idea is very interesting but they should be carefull in what they...

This place has amazing pizza. Hands down. I love the quirk of adding a little "sliver" of pizza every time you buy one! They also give out samples aka slivers for you to try, which of course only gets you hooked. The staff is super friendly and amazing, and the pizza is incredibly fresh and delicious. On par with Cheeseboard...

Ippuku is an izakaya-style establishment that combines buzz with intimacy. Seating is laid out beautifully in small, semi-private booths but the restaurant's immense popularity ensures that it never feels quiet.

Ippuku's menu is diverse but there's a special emphasis on chicken. Chicken breast cartilage, hearts and a tartare dish are all available. Drinks are strictly Japanese.
