Chef Christian Simionato came into the kitchen at the impressionable age of fifteen and since then has devoted his life to food and its preparation. He started his career working as Chef de Partie at “Hotel Casale” in Aosta (Italy), where he began to learn the secrets of the fine Italian pallet. Just down the street from the Sunset Plaza outdoor-cafe madness, Il Sole delivers authentic Italian food in a redesigned setting featuring banquettes and candlelit tables. Savoring the cuisine is a hip clientele drawn by the owners (a… Read More

“Wonderfully prepared”, “pricey” fare goes over well with the “celebrity clientele” at this West Hollywood Italian where the staff is “helpful when necessary and absent when appropriate”, and you can actually “hear yourself think”; some note there’s “not much to look at (other than the pretty patrons)”, but a recent renovation has enhanced its “romantic, intimate” vibe.

The ubiquitous Drago brothers hit the Sunset Strip with this pricey modern Italian, whose flashy menu matches the celeb-heavy crowd clustered inside; the "lovely" sun-washed space boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, wainscoting on the ceiling and Milanese pottery in nooks on the wall, while an "expert" staff caps things off.

A Comprehensive Guide to Valentine's Day Dining in LA

Arguably the biggest dining night of the year, Valentine's Day is a spectacle to be seen by diners both seasoned and amateur. Dates dress up in their fanciest garb, flowers in hand, perfume sprayed, hair curled and ready for a night on the town. Restaurants know their part — pricey prix-fixe menus that make it easy to choose the evening's array of aphrodisiacs. Lovers and would-be-lovers toast...

Despite good food and good reviews, the former site of Il Sole is now the former site of Osteria Drago. It is now "Il Bacio," also Italian, also high-end, and also not doing well. I don't quite understand why. I'm guessing that it is because of a changing demographic? Not really sure. Franco was a wonderful host, the wait staff...
