Honolua Store

In contrast to Kapalua's many high-end retailers, the old Honolua Store still plies the groceries and household goods it did in plantation times. Hefty plates of ono (delicious) local foods are served at the deli until 3 pm and best enjoyed on the wrap-around porch. The plate lunches are the quintessential local meal.

Stopped her for lunch and ordered a couple of wonderful focaccia sandwiches. Both were warm and satisfying. One was a Reuben that was put together perfectly. The focaccia was a pleasant addition to that traditional sandwich. The other was a roasted chicken and Brie melt--need I say more. Cartelized onions topped the melted cheese and it was delicious. Since we last visited it has been taken over by ABC stores. Deli and small grocery still there but downsized by a lot. Now with all the ABC store goodies (so much less expensive) still a good place to grab some food or last minute items for the beach. DT Flemming is just down the road or you can take the Kapalua trail back down to Kapalua if you are wanting more of a walk.

Honolua Store is a local favorite that since 2013 has become tourist-ized as an ABC Store. They have a kitchen selling burgers, pizza and sandwiches made to order. Alas, when we visited in March 2015 our food was cold and we didn't like the chili (almost all green peppers). We had breakfast there recently and it was terrible! Biscuits were doughy and eggs were rubber like! This place is not the same since ABC stores took over! ABC is a franchise which all they care...

We were staying at the Ritz and stopped here for breakfast and coffee. Both were great and much more reasonably priced than a meal at the Ritz. I wish we found this place earlier on in our stay....
