History:The Hideout is a regular guy bar for irregular folks who just dont fit in, or just dont want to fit in. We didnt choose the name, it has been called the Hideout since it opened (legally) in 1934.The Hideout is a 100 year old balloon-frame house, built in two days, still here a century later. Hammers pounding in nails faster than the city could tear it down. Built by undocumented workers...
This longtime neighborhood tavern and retreat for local working class folk has become a focal point of the Chicago bar/pub scene, and was recently listed in Rolling Stone magazine as Best Of Chicago, and for good reason. This is one of the few bars in town that does not stick to one genre of music. Rather, it presents the best of jazz, rock, folk... basically anything as long as it's good....
"You're lucky if you can find" this "über-hip", "out-of-place joint" in Noble Square, a longtime "civic treasure" that's a "must" for those looking to see live music, down "cheap drinks" and, on Saturday nights, "unabashedly dance" without "trendy" trappings; fans say the staff is "really friendly, which draws in more friendly people", leading to an "overall great ambiance."
Finding this aptly named bar can be a major challenge. Don't even attempt to take public transportation here; just get in a cab (your taxi driver will know where it is) and look for the glowing "Old Style Beer" sign that's a beacon of light in this warehousey no-man's-land. It's quite literally a hole in the wall: Faded beer cans rust on the windowsills, and the backroom "lounge," with its...
Excellent indie-rock/alt-country honkytonk nook that looks like a shack in the middle of nowhere, which it is. PBR drinkers and lots of loud conversations about Sleater-Kinney's last show in front, and a hot-n-sweaty live music room in the back with some of the best little shows in the city. The kids keep the pretentiousness to a low roar. Don't embarrass yourself at the bar: Note the blaze...
This friendly tavern's OLD STYLE BEER sign shines like a beacon, guiding roots-music fans through the grimy industrial neighborhood that surrounds it. The owners' beer-can collection and some "celebrity" memorabilia are on display in the front room. In back, local musicians play country, rock, and bluesy tunes on a small stage backed by an impressive stuffed sailfish. It's no-frills, all right,...
The Scene
This is no meat market (some handmade beef jerky might be traded among patrons, but that's it), and drink prices are kept low. There's a mounted deer head over the register, and...
I've been here lots Facebook. And this place rules, one of my favorite venues in the city.
Great small joint that feels like a basement. Cheap beer.
Yes must go to this joint if you haven't yet
A little hidden gem that packs a punch. Love summertime Veggie Bingo and, of course, the Hideout Block Party in September!
Love this place. Discovered it about 6 months ago. Had no idea of the rich history. Work steps away and the Hideout has become a regular stop. Great brews, great entertainment, great staff... Check it out!

The Hideout is a regular bar for irregular folks who just don’t fit in, or just don’t want to fit in.
The Hideout is small, and small is beautiful!
The main bar and Chinook Lounge are separate spaces, so you can enjoy one without the other, though most people pay to get into the show (covers vary between about $3 and $8) and divide their time between bar and band.
