Grill 23 & Bar has been Boston's top Steak and Seafood Grill for over 25 years. Consistently named Boston's Best Steakhouse by The Improper Bostonian Magazine and Boston Magazine, as well as New England's Best Steakhouse in New England Travel & Leisure Magazine. Always striving to offer our guests the best dining experience, Executive Chef Jay Murray delivers only the best all natural dry-aged...
Grill 23 & Bar is a twenty-first-century, classic American steakhouse that has reinvented itself with a renovated bar, steaks that sizzle and a notable wine list. Yuppies and board chairmen hold court in the two-story dining room (which can get boisterous at times) over huge slabs of tender, juicy meat and bottles of red wine. The bar has been expanded to include a wall of windows that provides...
Pinstripe suits, dark paneling, Persian rugs, and waiters in white jackets give this single-location steak house a posh demeanor. The food is anything but predictable, with dishes such as seasonally dressed tartars (steak and tuna) and weekly cuts of all-natural beef like the 14-ounce dry-aged New York sirloin. Seafood specialties such as spicy scallops with mushroom dumplings and baby...
"Well-heeled" steak aficionados laud this Back Bay chophouse for its "extraordinary", "mouthwatering cuts", which are served along with "excellent" sides and seafood plus an "oustanding" wine selection; "superb" servers preside "without pretense" over both the "classy", "bustling" main room and the quieter upstairs, ensuring that even at "upper-scale" rates, "you will be happy you dined here."
The best steakhouse in town, Grill 23 is a wood-paneled, glass-walled place with a businesslike air. A briefcase-toting crowd fills its two levels -- the dining rooms get very noisy -- and chows down on traditional slabs of beef and chops, traditional steakhouse side dishes, and sophisticated yet traditional desserts. The meat is of the highest quality, humanely raised and expertly prepared....
Grill 23 ushers the classic American steakhouse into the twenty-first century. Yuppies and board chairmen hold court over huge slabs of meat. Big red wines flow like chatter on the trading floor. While we love the show, we relish the fare, too. Chef Jay Murray is no chop chump: though the steaks are the stars, the whole menu is a class act, from aged cheddar soup with ham croquettes to truffled...
This place is Boston's best steakhouse for a reason. They have seriously good meat, and great sides and desserts too (most are portioned to share). Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and helpful when we had questions. It is on the pricey side, but not unreasonable for what you get. The decor is tastefully upscale, but the atmosphere is more Wall Street power lunch than intimate date night...
Contrary to the name (which I now believe was primarily for marketing reasons), 100 Day Aged Ribeye was a bit burnt on the side and wasn't very flavorfu but rather bland. I've eaten a good number of steaks with varying price points, and I've found a good number of ~$20, 25 steaks with richer taste.
Where to start
The food was fantastic and the restaurant as a whole is a very classy place. The wine list is very impressive. My only critique was that I had made a reservation for 9 pm yet we weren't seated until 9:50. Obviously things gets busy on Valentine's Day, but that was pretty discouraging
Great service, staff was very nice.
