This restaurant is right next to Newport Vineyard. Every time I go down to Newport I make the trip over to the Vineyard and the Glass Onion. They have an OK menu for a variety of tastes including some???

Overpriced, small portions of improperly cooked food. Served in a poorly lit, stale , cavernous environment. Hard to believe the people who run the Canfield House are the proprietors of this disappointment.
Having been there 3 times in the past 18 months with each experience only getting worse, this was the coup de grace in bad food and service.

Easy Coconut Shrimp app was overcooked to black and rubbery blandness. Lame sauce didnt help.
Baked scrod was woefully undercooked. And they refused to remove it from the bill saying it was cooked to ""chefs"" standards. Yeah, well he wasnt eating...

We arrived on a sat eve. in February. Restaurant was not crowded and we were seated immediately. Server was not friendly and seemed annoyed that we had an 8 yr old and a 10 yr old with us. My husband ordered a grilled salmon sandwich off the menu. It was supposed to be grilled with bacon, avacado, let, and tomato. My husband asked for side of mayo and raw onion and no bacon. My daughter ordered the child's pasta with light marinara. 1 hour-yes, 1 hour later the food came out. My husband got no avacado, no bacon, no onion, no mayo side and an ice cold sandwich. We were seated immediately by a very friendly hostess. I thought the interior of the restaurant was beautiful; classy and warm. The bar is gorgeous! Anyway, all of our food was delicious, from the soup and salad all the way to dessert. My entree was prime rib. It was a generous portion with great sides. The sweet potato fries are excellent! Our waitress was funny and sociable and kept right on top of everything. We will definitely visit again!

Their food is the greatest ever. The have been in the newspaper and have had a great review so yes you should try it if you have never eaten here before. Dress nice and classy this place is well respected...
