Help us make it rightGioco pioneered the retail development of the South Loop when it opened in September of 1999. The restaurant has been a mainstay in the neighborhood as other restaurants and stores have opened up over the years. Gioco is located in an historic building built in 1890 and is one of the few remaining buildings in Chicago from that era. The Gioco space features the original old brick and plaster...
Housed in two adjacent, late 19th century buildings, Gioco offers rustic Italian cuisine with an upscale twist. Alongside perennial favorites like Pizza Margherita and ravioli are items like their Carpaccio di Polpo, an octopus carpaccio served with fresh oregano and black olives. Gioco's other specialties include the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a 40-ounce Porterhouse steak that serves two....
This inviting neighborhood spot serves up succulent, satisfying Italian fare in a pleasant, high-ceilinged room, ...
"Solid" Northern Italian fare "true to the authentic flavors of Italy" does it for diners who recommend the "perfectly cooked pastas with complex and satisfying sauces" at this "rustic" South Looper set in a circa-1890 building; "friendly service", a "thoughtful wine list" and moderate tabs also help ensure it's a "keeper."
This Italian restaurant pleases the culinary cognoscenti for the simple reason that the food is admirably imaginative, from the grilled baby calamari and panzanella salad to the roasted branzino on puttanesca sauce. That's the good news. The bad news is that the decibel level at this casual hot-spot will drive you to drink. The veal saltimbocca is first-rate, as are the risottos and pastas,...
The South Loop was officially gentrified with the opening of this funky Italian restaurant. The cozy, lively ambience -- with exposed brick, mahogany accents, an open kitchen, stacks of wine bottles, and hip music -- is par for the course in other restaurant-rich neighborhoods, but it's a welcome addition to this area. Start with one of the wood-fired pizzas, or move on to the fine selection of...
Gioco is as close as you can come to the Hollywood ideal of the Chicago Italian restaurant: dark wood everywhere, a gargantuan bar, multiple levels of mostly group diners and an army of waitstaff serving them. The style is Tuscan, the plates and martinis are big if a bit pricey (the drinks will blow you away before the food does) and the water glasses are kept full. Known for his usual...
I was very surprised with everything you look for in a great dining experience. I was not expecting the great service and quality of food. Hidden Gem!
Gioco is one of my favorite places in the South Loop. Being Italian, I appreciate the simple menu and seasonal options. It is not too filling. The olive oil, infused with rosemary and garlic is drinkable! I bring many friends, family and customers here when I am in Chicago.
Went late and really enjoyed the good food and service. I usually go late to avoid the dinner rush and noise. Staff extremely helpful and ambiance was very enjoyabkr
Consistent, healthy, flavorful food! A neighborhood gem.
This team works SO hard to make dining a true pleasure. I highly recommend for any time!

Named one of Chicago Magazines 'Best New Restaurants' as well as one of Bon Appetit’s 'Favorite Places in 2000', Gioco is a hip, Italian eatery & the latest addition to the Marché, Red Light family of restaurants. Located at 1312 South Wabash, just minutes away from McCormick Place Convention Center, Gioco is in an area of the South Loop once dominated by speakeasies & other prohibition-era...
