A "good variety" of "tasty" New American small plates pairs with "delicious" drinks from an "excellent" bar at this "hot" River North gastropub from Brendan Sodikoff (Au Cheval, Maude's Liquor Bar, Bavette's); the "dark", stylish space features ornate chandeliers and leather booths, and though prices aren't low, it's still a prime pick for "after work", for "date night" or when out "with friends."
The "Minister of Rum," Chicago-based Ed Hamilton, says that "Chicago was behind a little bit on the rum front, but we're catching up quickly." Check out the map to see his, and more, recommendations.
Gilt Bar has very masculine food (bone marrow, short ribs), but feminine drinks and a "for-anyone) vibe. Grab a glass of Gruner on their outdoor patio during the summer months. You'll thank me later.
"Our mission statement, if you will, is the preservation of food culture," Brendan Sodikoff says. "Maybe we will do things that are kind of on the edge, but what I really care about is doing things that are good, that have a history," he continues. "That's why I want to do a deli, because I feel delis are dying."
Delis may be dying, but Steve's Deli (354 W. Hubbard) is officially dead. The...
Somehow, in between overseeing a bunch of smash-hit local restaurants (Bavette's Bar & Boeuf, Au Cheval, Gilt Bar, Doughnut Vault, Maude's Liquor Bar), Brendan Sodikoff is finding time to do interviews too. In the latest issue of Time Out Chicago, David Tamarkin profiles the elusive restaurateur. The piece goes through Sodikoff's history from California to Paris, New York to California, Arizona...
Wonderful drinks to start......classics......manhattans, martinis.......very well prepared. The smoked whitefish ceasar salad was outstanding, and the slow roasted meatball (Big!!!!!), roasted garlic toast very good. We all had pasta entrees and these were excellent......orecchiette pasta, bolognese, gnocchi and truffle pasta.....all prepared perfectly. The service was...
I loved everything about this place from the moment I arrived. The atmosphere and decor is dope. The food was good also. I mostly loved the ambiance.
Would definitely have given this restaurant 5 starts - if it had more lighting. We had to use our phones as flashlights to see the menu, order drinks and pay the check. So dark, several people bumped into the back of my chair. Food was...
The food was really good. The truffle pasta is what everyone said. The mashed potatoes were amazing. The ribeye had a lot of fat. More than usual. Our server was friendly but we ended up being there an hour later because she got busy w...
We had 10 people on a Saturday night-make your reservation. The food was great-everyone finished their entrees. We all thought is was very reasonable.I would come back. The only issue- it is very dark in the restaurant.

Sexiness ensues at this tavern-style restaurant and bar in River North. Dimly lit tables, dark wood and a young, trendy crowd makes this the place to see and be seen. Hot-to-trot types booze it up at the bar, where you’ll find master mixologist Paul McGee whipping up hand-crafted concoctions like The Elderflower (Champagne, St-Germain, orange bitters). In the intimate dining room, guests are seated at salvaged tables with mismatched chairs amid a sea of antique brass mirrors, thick tufted sofas and a star-burst chandelier. The kitchen creates casual but sophisticated fare by executive chef...

Go for cocktails after work - you'll immediately start relaxing. Be sure to read the signs on the basement doors on the way to the restrooms for a smile.
Where gorgeous folks nosh amazing food. Go for big, meaty dishes, check out the killer beer list, and don't skip dessert. Always busy.
This spot is as great for cocktails as it is for dining. It's especially hopping during happy hour, as well as Friday and Saturday nights.
