Built in 1764, this is the oldest continuously run inn in Pennsylvania. It was named after the man who founded Sacramento in 1839, only to lose his home during the frenzy of the gold rush. He retired in Lititz while seeking to be reimbursed by Washington. The inn is on the main square of Lititz, within easy walking distance of the historic district. The 1764 Restaurant ($$–$$$) offers fine...

The General Sutter has operated continuously since 1764 at the charming intersection of routes 501 and 772. The inn boasts such niceties as verandas overlooking a fountain, and marble-topped tables. I flew into Lancaster Airport for work and borrowed the courtesy car to make a trip here for a bite to eat. I was very impressed with the town on the drive in. When we arrived we entered through the Bulls Head entrance and were both taken back by the atmosphere of the place. When we entered the Restaurant we...

Not Impressed

Average Rating

Food was ok, but not hot as it should have been. Restaurant was not very clean. Staff was friendly, but could not find someone when you needed them. And place was not that busy at the time we were there.

The four of us enjoyed lunch after visiting the Middle Creek wildlife management area. The menu was quite extensive with satisfying choices for all of us. We had burgers and a pulled pork sandwich. Both came with fries which were excellent! Although 2 of the burgers were cooked "well" rather than rare, the meat was of exceptional quality. When the...
