This 376-acre park maintained by the National Park Service is one of D.C.'s largest parks. You can maintain your own garden plot for one year by obtaining a permit. See the National Park Web site for information on how to apply.
The park is named after Samuel Francis Du Pont, a naval hero in the Civil War.
There is no entrance fee, but a one-day permit is $7 and required to picnic in areas 47 and 47A at Randle Circle and Lanham Estates. There is also no fee to use the recreation field, tennis courts or basketball courts unless you wish to reserve them for a group activity, which is $50.
