I chose Foghorn Inn from the pictures of beach access and open patios from rooms. What I didn't understand until I arrived was that "1st floor" actually means a basement type experience where you walk downstairs below the lobby into a dark corridor that leads to these rooms that have a stale smell from a lack of fresh air. Nice, quiet hotel tucked away in the Marina, close to the beach, Venice and Santa Monica. A great escape from LA while still being in LA. Staff is helpful and friendly. Adequate continental breakfast included. Only downside: TV channels very limited for being in the entertainment capital of the world.

After an horrific experience with an AirBnB apartment down the road, my parents and I wandered the streets of Marina del Rey at 2am and found this gem of a hotel. Room was clean and spacious - at end of the hall so, from 10 pm until 1am constant noise coming from outside! Apparently a delivery truck for the Cheesecake Factory! Other than that - pretty nice place with swim beach, walkway neat water and marina! Expensive little convenience store next door with good deli food! Worth $200 per night in...
