The Fireplace Inn has always been one of my favorite spots to dine before going to a show at Zanies or Second City. I hadn't been there in a while and was dismayed to see how much it's changed. I believe this is probably because it was a nice day out and so many people were out and most places were understaffed, but there was only one waiter and one bartender and service was realllllllyyyy slow. This won't effect my future attendance, but just also something to make note of.

I had been to the Fireplace in a fairly long time ago when it was a sit down dinner establishment. Since We (wife and I) were taking the family to Second City for an early New Years Eve show we wanted to eat dinner in Old Town. (We used to live in Old Town 30 years ago)
