We were buying our first home, we paid 2 points to lock into an 8 percent interest rate. The rates went down prior to closing (it took three months to get the bank to close this deal). The bank wouldn't allow us to get the naturally lower rate that was actually available at the time because we 'locked in' to the rate. So, in essence, we paid thousands to have the higher rate!!!!
