The FDR memmorial is a beautiful place to be in .. its on the shore of the tidal basin on one side ... and it is sculpted with amazing fountains and the most memmorable saying of FDR ... and also since he was a handicap ... the whole area is made in a handicap friendly manner !!

You need to get off the beaten path a bit to find the memorial, but it is worth the trip. Of course there were many discussions about the design of it....as there is with all monuments and new bldgs in DC. The town is full of opinions. Some say the wheelchair depiction was not necessary. I believe he was the only president to serve in a wheelchair.

The FDR Memorial is the newest presidential monument, and is in a nook just west of the Tidal Basin. There was much controversy surrounding this memorial at its dedication ceremony, because FDR was not shown in his wheelchair.

There are stark walls, and hidden waterfalls, and bronze pieces by George Segal depicting a bread line. It is very peaceful, with the sound of trickling water drowning...

This memorial was located on a beautiful site but I just wasnt as impressed with it as much as the others...it seemed to ramble unlike the others

This monument is not only a memorial to the nation's 32nd president, but also a remembrance of the people of his time. The monument stretches along the Tidal Basin with four outdoor gallery rooms, connected by granite passageways. Each room exhibits aspects of Franklin D. Roosevelt's terms in office. The second room, for example, depicts the Great Depression with statues waiting in a bread line...
