When Iliana Regan first announced her ambitious "new gatherer" restaurant Elizabeth, a few facets besides the cuisine made it unique and helped to earn Regan a Michelin star. When it opened, the restaurant served three different tasting menus, only had communal seating, and was the first Chicago restaurant besides Next and Alinea to adopt Nick Kokonas' ticket system. Since then, Elizabeth moved...
Despite a return to winter temps, a sign that spring is here is the appearance of fiddlehead ferns on Chicago menus. The elusive spring green is a chef favorite that's often harvested in early May, thus many of the restaurants that have them now are among the trendiest and priciest in town. Check out the map to see where fiddleheads are already sprouting in the city.
Forager/underground chef Iliana Regan takes over the former Prix Fixe space in Lincoln Square, serving a fine-dining take on ‘new gatherer cuisine’ (New American farm-to-table, nose-to-tail and root-to-branch) in three pricey tasting menus that are reserved online through a ticketing system; the setting is funky cottage with white, wood and metal surfaces, mismatched chairs at communal tables,...
ROSCOE VILLAGE—Now open for six months, alcohol service will finally begin at endgrain. Beer and wine will start flowing tomorrow; expect cocktails soon. [Zagat]
RIVER NORTH—The second floor of American Junkie is now called The Attic and is only accessible through a separate entrance. The space has been renovated to include a new layout and more of a club atmosphere than the first floor....
The Michelin Guide will release its 2014 book of coveted star ratings tomorrow, and the results are in today. Overall, the number of stars doled out to Chicago restaurants increased from 19 to 25. No restaurants fell off the list from last year or lost stars. One restaurant, Sixteen, gained a star, moving up to two under chef Thomas Lents. Grace and chef Curtis Duffy made a splash, debuting...
I'm not a sweet tooth but the dessert invented and prepared by chef Regan was absolutely mind-blowing. Perfect service, ...awesome chef and nice design (felt very Scandinavian to me; Noma-like but cozier). We had fantastic time. Thanks chef Regan!See More
I have been wiggling off the hook all weekend from the most soulful & enriching meal I have experienced.
I really can't believe how amazing dinner at Elizabeth is. It's a week later and I'm still swooning. A whole deep fried ...baby maitake mushroom is really my new standard of dining excellence. This was one of my favorite dining experiences ever and I'll certainly be back for each seasonal menu. I'm buying Spring tickets as soon as they're on sale.See More
Wow! The gorgeous, scrumptious parade of inventive courses left me speechless. Elizabeth's is the Louvre of restaurants.
The finest of fine dining in Lincoln Square, but without the pretension. Chef Iliana Regan's forage-based restaurant will blow your mind.
Chef Iliana Regan stays true to her midwestern, farm-to-table concept for diners who wish to take a culinary adventure and experience some of the best of local, homegrown foods.

Playing in the dirt has never been so much fun. Chef Iliana Regan's menu at Elizabeth is based on foraged ingredients - as in she and her staff crawled around in the woods and picked them. You've never tasted anything even close before - pine juice, queen anne's lace gel, truly wild mushrooms and pickled rose petals are just a few of the possibilities. The restaurant, located in an anonymous storefront on Western, is tiny and communal, and after eating a few courses you won't be able to resist gossiping with your tablemates. Buy tickets in advance (it's the only way to get in) and buy them...
