What the community has to say about El Paseo

Information about this business (7)

The Ultimate Dining Experience in Mill Valley has a unique & romantic ambiance and features a bounty of seasonal dishes crafted from local ingredients and inspired by Amiercan & Spanish cuisine.

Restaurant

In 2009 local Mill Valley residents Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar partnered to take over the restaurant. Seeking to maintain the historic charm and integrity of the building and gardens, they planned and designed a complete restoration of the storied interior and exterior spaces. We are very excited to bring a local institution back to its former glory.

With its rosy brick walls, warren of intimate dining rooms, fireplaces and a secreted-away outdoor patio, El Paseo is one of Marin's most romantic restaurants. Under new owners, celebrity chef Tyler Florence and rock star Sammy Hagar, the…

Tyler Florence's Rotisserie & Wine Clucks Out

It was was certainly curious when Tyler Florence's downtown Napa restaurant Rotisserie & Wine closed for a "revamp" just one year in, and today's Inside Scoop column brings word that the roasted chicken emporium will not return to the land of the living after its months-long hiatus. Reflecting now, the restaurant's one short year was tumultuous. A spat with the DOH, "quirky" call by Bauer,...

The Chronicle Announces Its 2012 Rising Star Chefs

It being year 20 for The Chronicle's Rising Star chef brigade and all, the 2012 announcement opens up with a hearty back pat, calling out the most successful Rising Stars from years past. Did you know Michael Mina, Douglas Keane, Corey Lee, and Melissa Perello were all plucked for the feature at an early age? Just like last year, Bauer notes that all of his chef recruits are united by a common...

Inside Keiko à Nob Hill, Now Open

At last, here we have Keiko à Nob Hill, a project that's been in the works for almost exactly two years, now open in the former home of Le Club. You'll remember owners Seigo Takei and chef Keiko Takahashi sold their Michelin-starred El Paseo to Tyler Florence and Sammy Hagar in 2009. Now they're excited to open a new restaurant in San Francisco proper, where they suspect more diners will tap...

Michelin-Approved Keiko Takahashi to Open Keiko à Nob Hill Next Week

Former El Paseo chef Keiko Takahashi returns to the public eye next Wednesday when her restaurant Keiko à Nob Hill opens in the old Le Club stomping grounds. As GrubStreet reminds, she won a Michelin star in 2009, so you know this one's on Bauer's to-do list. Back in the day at El Paseo, chef was known for blending modern and classical Japanese cuisine with French technique. You'll see that...

Used to be one of my favorites, but ever since they added their "Spanish flair" it's now just meh. Wish they'd bring back a menu that is more new American like it used to be

Great steak, great wine, unique location. Feels like a cobblestone alley in Portugal. Super relaxed and picturesque. Always have a good meal and a good time here.

Business description (7) view all

Originally built in the mid-1940s, the history of the Bay Area is woven deeply into the construction of El Paseo. The bricks walling in the quaint warren of rooms were reclaimed from landfill from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the thick beams, supporting many of the ceilings, were rail ties from the gravity trains used to bring visitors up Mount Tamalpais’ East Peak at the turn of the...

She and her husband Henry purchased the Holtum Building in 1936 and for eight years began the process of creating, designing and building. She felt California had a unique history which should be preserved. They acquired old adobe from Mexico, huge beams from...

A Marin Chophouse

Downtown activities center around Lytton Square, where people gather for coffee at the Book Depot Café or for a game of chess while conducting some serious people-watching. Fashionable boutiques and restaurants fill the downtown. Sweetwater, one of the top roots music clubs in the nation, is well-known for its live musical performances and famous guest musicians who occasionally “drop in” for...
