The Donora Smog Museum was established in 2008 to commemorate the tragic smog disaster that occurred in the city on October 26, 1948. It was caused allegedly due to the air pollution of the steel plants leading to the loss of 20 lives and leaving thousands sick. The museum opened on the 60th anniversary of the incident and showcases interesting aerial photographs, artifacts and memorabilia.

Being from Donora I found the local history to be very interesting, especially all of the nostalgia. But on a grander scale it covers the raise and fall of the steel town in America very well. Also, quite a collection of Stan "the man" Musial memorabilia. The curator will gladly play reel to reel movie footage of his great games!

A trip to Donora PA must include a stop at the Smog Museum. A collection of artifacts of this dark time are displayed .. this is an educational experience.
Sometimes a resident of Donora is on site to discuss the tragic weather inversion which trapped deadly smog from the zinc works decades ago.
