Help us make it rightLocated on 14 acres along the east bank of the Des Moines River, near downtown Des Moines, the Des Moines Botanical Center is one of the most popular cultural attractions in Iowa. Providing educational, recreational and community resources to thousands each year, the Des Moines Botanical Center is a member of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta.
When it's freezing outside and the winter blahs have gotten to you, go to the botanical center. You will walk in and feel humidity for the first time in months and it will feel great. Love their Bonzai collection.
While babysitting our 17 month old grandson we wanted to go for a walk but it rained for the 3 days. We took him to the Botanical Center to roam and he loved it. The best part are the incredible photos we were able to take of him with the gorgeous plants in the background!!
This was false advertising at its best. Ads say 14 acres, it won't be that for several years. It was tiny and half the few plants they had were dead! Do not bother !
It was gorgeous in there but due to the time of year we visited not much in flowers, mainly just trees. We have planned another visit soon to see all of the beautiful flowers.
I have visited the botanical gardens several times over the years. We last went over winter break with the kids and I loved the remodeling they have done. It is a lovely place. They had a little scavenger hunt that helped get the kids involved and interested in checking out all the different kinds of plants.
