Help us make it rightExact same situation as comment below. Cleaned the apt very well, little to no wall marks. We were deducted because of ""smoke damage""... NONE of our housemates smoke indoors or at all. However, unknowing of how low quality Dean Brunner Rentals are, a couple of our housemates decided to rent another unit. They scheduled us for a move-in date but a week before our move-in date, said it would be tentative. Two days before our scheduled move-in date, they tell us it's moved back. Very poor communication, staff extremely rude.
Terrible experience. They charge outrageous rents for old, small houses. They charge late fees of $150 per month even though only a small portion of the rent is late and even if it is only 2 or 3 days late. Although they cannot charge such high late fees because they are penalties that are not permitted (see the California Department of Consumer Affairs' California Tenants Booklet), they do it...
We signed a one year lease for an apt. and from the start we were treated rudely and with contempt from the office staff. They require an outrageous security deposit-$5,720 dollars for a two bdrm apt! There were hassles with the office over several issues regarding the apt. , all of which were handled terribly by the office staff.
At the end of the lease $1,292 dollars was deducted from the deposit for cleaning and painting, services conveniently provided by Dean Brunners son! This was after the apt. was thoroughly cleaned. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUISNESS!!
