My husband and I bought a new house and wanted to have our locks changed, and a deadbolt install on the door leading to our garage. We called Dad's Locksmith for the job. The person who showed up changed our locks, and did a good job. However, when it came to install the deadbolt we requested, it was a totally different story. He left a 6 inch crack in the thin part of the door when he drilled the hole for the lock. Also, the door started to stick at the top when it was open and closed. He must have knocked it out of alignment. He also cut a hole in the frame of our door, and then realized it was metal. It quickly became apparent that he was in over his head. Because the door was now rubbing at the top, there was no room to install the faceplate on the frame. So he left a big jagged hole in the frame that looked horrible. Not only that, when the deadbolt was locked there was about a quarter of an inch of play. Thus even when the deadbolt was locked, the door would open a quarter of an inch. Ridiculous.
Dad's sent out a new tech a few days later to fix the problems. He cut into the frame and installed the faceplate, but then the hole in the faceplate and the lock were out of alignment. So he cut a portion of the faceplate out. So now there is still a little play in the door when the deadbolt is locked. The new tech gave us some line about how we wanted play in the door in case the door moved. But hello, there is no play in the bottom lock, and it's been fine for 20 years. He also denied that the other tech cracked the door when installing the deadbolt. But again, we bought the house a week before the work was done, there was no crack when we moved in. He glued the crack shut, and put a screw in the door to hold it. Now we have to go back, removed the screw, and putty the hole. Not to mention that the door needs to be painted now due to the scuff marks from the rubbing.
I would not use Dad's locksmith again. It was a horrible experience.
