I have a very strong stomach, but I got really sick from eating here. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Instead, try Curbside Too at Lombard and Lyon -- still cheap but actually good. Really, I hardly ever get…
Called to make a reservation and discovered it's now a taqueria.
In ShortThis sweet little French bistro, filled with fresh flowers, antiqued charm, and 10 comfortable tables and booths, gathers regulars from the Presidio and surrounding Marina streets. Nightly specials might include escargots Provencal, sautéed scallops with saffron in puff pastry, and roasted duck a l'orange. Entrees deviate from the French a little bit here and there--burgers, chicken...
Curbside, Too has been a favorite of ours for years; ever since being attracted to its warm glow before a function at the Exploratorium. Chefs come and go but the quality of their menu never falters. While my favorite is the chicken piccata with big, plump caper berries, I sometimes stray to the nightly special. Last time it was an amazing monkfish with mussels -- the best I've ever encountered. Wine list is small but reasonably priced. Interior is quirky and divine. Come here. Make a reservation and ask for a booth.
Pros
+ Food, Attitude
My friends and I recently went into this little place that we've always liked, and found that they just hired a new chef. He is just what they needed because the food was better than we remembered, fresh and delicious. If you haven't been, the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. The cuisine is french-influenced californian, and more attention to the presentation is being paid than ever before. We're going back, and you should too!
Pros
+ enthusiastic new chef, nice neighborhood, bistro ambience
Cons
- not easily noticeable
