Costata Restaurant Review

In the building that once housed his Fiamma, chef Michael White has opened a handsome Italian-inflected steakhouse. There are plenty of pastas on the menu, reminding diners that they’re at a White restaurant, a chef who has quietly and quickly amassed a small empire of Italian establishments. Garganelli, laced with speck and radicchio, is a relic from the Fiamma days and one we’re happy to see...

In SoHo's former Fiamma space, this new high-end steakhouse from Michael White serves up the expected dry-aged beef plus ample seafood and pastas, matched with a smart cocktail list; the three-story, lushly appointed space features plenty of elbow room between tables, cushy leather chairs and large, colorful artwork.

Costata, the fifth Manhattan restaurant from the Altamarea Group, brings a contemporary steak concept to SoHo, with an extensive dry-aged program augmented with homemade pastas and more.

Michael White returns to the address in SoHo where he made his name, when it was called Fiamma. Now he is an owner and the restaurant is a steakhouse, but in a nod to old times Fiamma’s garganelli with truffle cream is on the menu, along with other dishes that show his mastery of fresh pasta. As at Marea, his seafood palace on Central Park South, there is a crudo section, most of it very...

Michael White of Ai Fiori et al does an Italian steakhouse south of Houston. Two-story dining room pops with bright orange and red lighting. Signature rib-eye, served off the bone with lemon and rosemary, shares menu space with other 28-day aged cuts, seafood crudo, top pastas. Rum-raisin semifreddo for dessert. Eben Freeman laces the cocktail list with local gin, while the wine list goes 500...

Excellent selection of paint at the right price. This is the only place I use when doing it myself.

Disappointed

We chose Costata for our 35 th Wedding Anniversary based on our excellent experience with Michael White's Marea. The ambience was depressing. Wooden tables without tablecloths and dark abstract paintings and poor lighting made for an uncomfortable experience . The wait staff were distant . My wife had to ask for bread at the end of the meal and it was dry and with little taste. The cocktails...

All around good experience. Everything was delicious...from the apps to the entree's. Awesome wine by the glass selection and good service made for a wonderful experience. Can't wait to go back.

Excellent Return Trip

Have been to Costata several times and this latest return trip did not disappoint. The real highlights are any of their steaks and Michael White's pasta (try the garganelli).

Lunch with friends in Costata

Me and my friends were having lunch in Costata in restaurant week, their dishes were so delicious, but one of the waitresses attitude was very unfriendly, no smiling. I think nice service is really important for me.
