Great little Civil War Museum

You obviously are in Charleston for one of two reasons ... the beaches or the Civil War. If you are there for the Civil War this is a must stop. If you are there for the beach, this is a cool stop (just leave the sand outside). This is a multi floor museum that is not that big but has...

Disappointing Collection

Average Rating

It appeared that the items in the collection and the displays had come from the 1860s and hadn't been touched since then. All in all, it seemed like a dusty, dog-eared collection of stuff. Fortunately, the admission is only $5, so it might be worthwhile for a diehard Civil War fan. Unfortunately, I am and it wasn't.

Charleston's Glorious Era

This museum is tenderly maintained by the Daughters of the Confederacy and is a wonderful place to reflect of the valiant momens of Charleston's past. The efforts to restore this building are expensive, so visitors should consider offering a donation for the cause. Along meeting street, the site is a visible reminder that the war of northern aggression was fought...

Cash Only

I couldn't go in because it was cash only and I didn't have any cash. It's not expensive at all, and from the glance inside, it looked like it had so much cool memorabilia from the confederacy. I really want to go inside next time I go and visit.

Learned a lot about the war between the states

Having visited Gettysburg a few days ago we were curious about seeing a museum set up in a confederate state. The museum is quite small in size (especially compared to Gettysburg!) but was packed with items donated from confederate soldiers and their families. There were uniforms, flags, money, portraits, and much more. Even a locket of general E Lee's hair!...

Museums: The stately Greek Revival Market Hall marks the beginning of Charleston's famous shopping venue, the Old City Market. The temple-like structure marks the site of a 19th-century meat market. Local architect Edward Brickell White designed Market Hall in 1841 of stucco-covered brick scored to look like blocks of stone. On the second floor, the Daughters of the Confederacy now show off...
