What the community has to say about Cibo Matto

Information about this business (1)

cibo matto may translate to crazy food, but it might be better described as crazy good food! An expressive take on modern Italian cuisine, expect to be surprised by the dimensions of flavors found within signature items like the carbonara or the carne de costilla de tres vias--ribeye three ways. More traditional palates will enjoy the flair of the homemade spaghetti and meatballs, doused with...

Editorial reviews from the web (2)

The food doesn't quite live up to the name at this upscale Italian restaurant inside the Wit Hotel. Cibo Matto translates to "crazy food," but the dishes coming out of the open kitchen are, if anything, elegant and well-executed. The modern dining room with its tall, white booths and large windows looking out over State Street gleams with polished, dark wood and a standout mural by Todd Murphy....

Seasonal Italian, including handmade pastas, at The Wit.

The seasonal flavors at this modern Italian eatery favor the clean and classic more than the name--which translates to ""crazy food""--might imply. Dishes like black truffle vinaigrette-drizzled...

Had a "conference dinner" in the restaurant so had no say in menu, etc. Chicken was good, standard fare considering we were a group of 30+.

Recently traveled to Chicago and stayed at the Wit hotel for a week. As this restaurant, among others, was located inside the hotel - tried this one evening for dinner.
The food really was excellent - top notch in every way, from appetizers to main course to desert - presentation, taste, portion size - you will like this food.

Ugh. During four great nights in Chicago, this place was probably the least impressive place we ate at the entire time. Our guests picked the spot - maybe because they are from the North Chicago suburbs? ;)
I can't remember what I ate. The waiter wants you to order three courses, so we did. Wait, my husband can remember what...

Tips about this business (3)

What to Drink

Wine is the obvious choice with dinner (try a glass of 2007 Tammellini Soave with fish or vegetable-heavy dishes), but cocktailers get their due with a pared-down list of interesting drinks built around seasonal fruits and artisanal spirits.

Where to Sit

The 12-seat Chef's Table puts larger groups right next to the partially open kitchen and within drooling distance of the impressive 8-foot glass and wood display case full of cheeses and housemade salumi.

Save Money

The menu is organized around the traditional courses of "antipasti," "primi" and "secondi," but smaller plates are built for sharing, and a couple of them easily makes a meal.
