Arami Takes Over Shuttered Chizakaya Space on Lincoln

A new location of the acclaimed Japanese spot Arami is on the way to Lakeview. The restaurant posted the news on its Facebook page and is taking over the location of a shuttered Japanese spot, Chizakaya, at 3056 N. Lincoln.

City of Evanston Shuts Down Under the Table

Nascent pop-up restaurant Under the Table was shut down last week by the city of Evanston for not having a food establishment license. Owner Max Mora states that Under the Table is sold out for the next three weeks, and is still unsure as to how this will affect those upcoming weekend brunches and dinners.

Carl Caneva, the assistant director for Evanston's Health Department, commented on the...

Chizakaya Shuttered Saturday Night; May Relocate

Chizakaya, the Japanese pub that opened to acclaim just over two years ago, shuttered after service on Saturday night. Harold Jurado, the former chef whose family owns the restaurant, said they decided to close it because it just wasn't making enough money. "We're looking to relocate," Jurado said. "Personally I'm occupied with Jellyfish, but my family will look at different neighborhoods to...

THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chizakaya Restaurant Review

Succeeding where its izakaya predecessors have not, this Lakeview eatery --- owned by Harold Jurado (a Sunda, Charlie Trotter’s and Japonais vet) --- has Robert Rubba (L20, Restaurant Guy Savoy, Gordon Ramsay at The London Hotel) as its chef de cuisine; impressive whiskey and saké selections, the latter culled by ex-L2O sommelier Chantelle Pabros; and some fine okashi and small plates that...

The izakaya trend of Japanese pub fare finds a home in Lakeview with this chic, neighborhood restaurant. Former chefs from Japonais and L20 are behind the seasonal small plates menu of chicken meatballs, puffed pigs' ears, spicy shisito peppers, and blue crab congee. Attractive wooden tables and ornate Japanese ceiling murals may keep you comfortable long into the night, but it's the elaborate...

Nondescript front dining room except for the ceiling murals, upbeat lounge music. Service just OK, not very attentive. Food was mostly good, the "takoyaki" octopus beignet, the chicken wings, the unagi donburi, and pork belly bao were the best, the wagyu beef skewers, edamame, lobster bao, and hamachi kama dishes weren't as high quality but still good. Great cocktails, decent sake selection....

Finally - good Ramen

This is truly the best Ramen you will ever have in your life. The seasonings coupled with the Umami flavors, really make you question why you have ever bought Top Ramen. Not to mention, they suvee the chicken, which makes for suculant, moist pieces of chicken. yum yum yum.

Bar food gone Japanese

This place is awesome. When I first started going a few months ago, not many people would be in there and I was worried the restaurant wouldn't succeed. Now, after a handful of visits, this place is Poppin! The best thing that was on the menu no longer is, a whole saba (makeral fish). But, call ahead and be extra...

Great new spot with some inventive treats, and a fun atmosphere

I go here and order every skewer they have. Chicken hearts, chicken skins and gizzards. Shishito peppers, liver sashimi, all unreal.

Business description (4)

Chizakaya is located at 3056 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL. This business specializes in Japanese Restaurants.

Chizakaya was founded in 2010, and is located at 3056 N Lincoln Ave in Chicago.

The menu at Chizakaya is inspired by the "izakaya" taverns which are numerous in Tokyo. Sushi is not on the menu. Instead, you'll find a good selection of skewers, noodle bowls, and regional entrees like duck breast. We sampled the pork and egg appetizer followed by the seafood noodle dish. Both items were unique, and quite delicious. Good selection of sake - we recommend the Big 7. Expect to...
