Alva was the site of a Prisoner of War camp during WWII and it housed some of the worst Nazi prisoners that we captured. It makes sense because Alva is so isolated, there is nothing for miles in any direction. They have excellent displays of WWI and WWII uniforms and accouterments as well as early twentieth century every day items....

The museum is set in a old hospital built in 1932. What I liked most was what it portrayed of the history of the area, of which I knew nothing. It also had some items of interest for sale.

Full Museum and Great Staff

We fully enjoyed our visit to this museum. The staff (all volunteers, i believe) was helpful and informative. There are numerous rooms, as this was formerly a hospital. Therefore, pretty much the entire history of Alva, as well as much of the county, was covered.
Students would learn much about medicine, heroism, the land run and everyday life in Oklahoma...

This museum offers a history for the Alva, Woods County area and Cherokee Strip. The staff is so pleasant and helpful and they offer many wonderful events for children and families throughout the year.
