All that's missing from this tailor-shoeshine-martini bar is a dame with heart of gold and a troubled past, a PI wearing a fedora and a couple of wise guys. A cornerstone of downtown Houston and Market Square since the '30s, this third-generation tailor took a good look around and updated their look and business model to better meet the needs of their customers. That's right, order a stiff...
In Short
Operating downtown since the '30s, Duke of Hollywood Tailors (also known as the Char Bar after a recent renovation) is a tailor shop and bar selling custom-made suits and shirts... Pros + Friendly staff
My all time favorite establishments in the Houston area. Think of your family and how they may say things that alarm you or put you on the offensive. However, they still love and care for you, deeply, and will always prepare you for the real world. If you are looking for intelligent conversations without pretentiousness or candy-coating, creative drink mixes,...
This place is pretty awesome. The owner Mike is an great guy and he was our bartender (good service). The place is unique and is comfortable. I would go back and recommend.

Duke of Hollywood Tailors has been a full service downtown tailor since 1937. A recent renovation added two full service bars.
For a thorough shoeshine, pay a visit to Weldon Renfro. His booth is located near the bar's entrance. Shoes $6, boots $7.
Only custom clothing and shoeshines are available late-night. For alterations, you'll need to return during Duke's regular business hours.
All the clothing for sale is showcased in see-through closets and drawers, so your new shirt or suit won't smell like cigar smoke and whiskey.
