"Truly a people's place", this "legendary" Central Square "dive" is home to a "heavy-drinking" crew of "students", "townies" and "aging punks" who "boogie down" nightly to genre-spanning live music; despite "seedy" looks and a "stale beer" smell, "you can't beat" the energy here – in a "blueblood" city, it "makes you feel alive."

The Cantab has something live going on every night and drinks are pretty cheap. Upstairs you can catch blues, while downstairs on Wednesdays there's some nationally recognized spoken word happening. You'll hear heart-wrenching, but also hilarious poetry that'll have you snapping. If you're lucky you might hear the story of how the bartender almost killed Junot Diaz. It was a Tuesday.

Stumbled into this place while visiting Cambridge from out of town. Best prices we have found Chris was a great bartender with a lot of information n Boston. The older gentleman that came in will Chris went to lunch was great aswell. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good priced local bar.

Miss The Rat? Go here. Great, grungy, dirty basement. My mother would never use the bathroom here but it's all about the rock and roll. The last bastion of Boston's rock scene.

Grungy, dirty, divey, punk, pop-punk, and otherwise great bar in Central Square. Don't go here if you don't want a gross bar with cheap drinks and loud music. They have two floors that frequently play different shows at the same time. A lot of older people were here on the top floor when I came, and younger punk wannabes on...

The Cantab (upstairs or down) is always fun no matter which day of the week you go. Be prepared since it's one of the few holdout cash only bars in Cambridge. Music varies depending on the night, so take a look at the schedule posted on the wall outside before you go in and pay the cover. (No cover on...

Cantab Lounge can be found at Massachusetts Ave 738. The following is offered: Night Clubs. The entry is present with us since Sep 10, 2010 and was last updated on Nov 14, 2013. In Cambridge there are 18 other Night Clubs. An overview can be found here.

In its role as a neighborhood bar & grille and meeting place for multi-ethnic, multi-generation Central Square, the Cantab Lounge provides stages for many kinds of music and the spoken word.

Absolutely a dive, absolutely a good time. A 'must go' if you are in walking distance and, for everyone else, it's 'worth the trip' on a slow night. Live music and dancing. There is usually a cover charge which never seems worth it until you've had a few drinks and are out on the dance floor shakin' it down. Typical Central Square crowd.

Lead performer Little Joe Cook keeps this lounge hopping while setting the pace with bluegrass and R&B favorites, like the house anthem, "Down at the Cantab." Monday nights are open mic night, and Wednesdays and Sundays are dedicated to blues. In addition, poetry readings are held downstairs in the Third Rail room.

This neighborhood bar features live entertainment every night. Monday is Open Mike Night, Tuesday is a Bluegrass Pickin' Party, Wednesday is Poetry Readings and Thursday through Saturday features local legend Little Joe Cook, backed by the Thrillers. Chances are you will see Little Joe at Sunday night's Blues Jam as well. Great drinks and a bar menu featuring Mexican food, sandwiches and steak...
