The international newsstand, casual atmosphere, and regular clientele make cafe Presse feel as if it could easily fit in on the Left Bank. The funky vibe doesn't hint at the caliber of the cuisine. Owned by Joanne Herron and Jim Drohman of… Read More

Cafe Presse Restaurant Review

Whether you want to enjoy an international newspaper or celebrate with a friend, this spot offers a lively atmosphere with genuine Parisian style. Owned by Joanne Herron and Jim Drohman, the visionaries behind Seattle's Le Pichet, this Capitol Hill spot offers a menu of well-prepared, casual café classics. Breakfast includes robust Caffé Vita coffee and an ever-changing array of house-made...

Bartenders with mullets, writers with Ira-Glasses, and the freshly-scrubbed Sitka and Spruce crowd all look gorgeous under Café Presse's perfectly-sized skylight. Everything to everyone, Presse's magazine rack stacks Artforum next to Newsweek next to Adbusters next to Cooking Light (but really: who reads Adbusters anymore?). At night, the Brazillian Girls pulse through the dimly lit dining room...

Under the same ownership as Belltown's Le Pichet (my favorite Seattle French cafe), Café Presse is modeled after a traditional Parisian bar-cafe. This is an all-day sort of place. You can start with eggs or a pastry for breakfast, get a croque monsieur ham sandwich for lunch, and at dinner order steak frites or a whole roasted chicken for two. At the end of the day, you can wind down with a...

This is my favorite breakfast to meet up with an old friend or sibling to share many plates, coffee and engaging conversation for a couple hours. Cafe Presse is a comfortable place to sit back and munch on a variety of classic French cafe foods: baguettes with melted chocolate, chicken liver pate, the bubbling, cheese-covered croque monsieur and housemade yogurt with honey and almonds.
Cafe...

Let me start by saying: the food is always delicious. The Croque Madame is to die for, and the pastries are on point! That must be why I subject myself to the completely rude staff members that make this place the worst when it comes to service. Aside from the much needed attitude adjustment, the food is solid. Also, whatever you do don't bring in coffee from the far superior coffee bar...

One of my personal favorites!

Last time I was here I had the Croque Monsieur and a shot of chartreuse. I think about visiting Cafe Presse more often, but usually end up at their equally excellent sister restaurant Le Pichet downtown instead. Two great breakfast spots that I would recommend to anyone.

Great any time of the day. I have eaten at Cafe Presse for breakfast, late night, and everything in between. My favorite dish is the croque madame (which you can't get if you go for the early breakfast - if you go then, get the yogurt with honey and walnuts). I am also a big fan of the pommes-frites with the mayonnaise and their cocktail selection. My roommate and I used to call ahead and get...

Tips about this business (3)

What to Drink: Wines by the glass are terrific bargains---reasonable pours of good French wines are as little as $3.50 each.

Save Time: Much of the menu is available for take-out, but kitchen priority is given to dine-in customers. Instead of calling ahead, just pull up a seat at the bar and sip a beverage while waiting.

The Extras: Right inside the front door is a selection of magazines and newspapers available for purchase.
