During the week it showcases a diverse selection of music and talent, and on the weekends you can listen to well known bands or outstanding jazz and blues players jam.

Café 9 has been anchoring the Ninth Square with its proprietary blend of awesome local bands and amazing national (and international) acts for decades now. The service was very good, Even during a show where there were a lot of people. Our group of 6 was able to get a high top during the performance as well. The crowd was fun and interactive with the musicians.

OK, so it's not in the greatest section of New Haven, on a corner off on its own. But despite the grubby outside appearance, this is an outstanding spot for hearing live bands and performers. On the downtown end of State Street sits this lonely little live music joint, where the headliners are always top notch and the drinks always pack a little punch. Though punk and garage rockers plug in their amps here from time to time, the weekly bookings are impressively diverse. Stop in on a Monday or Tuesday, and you might catch a folk, acoustic, country or jazz act. Later in the week, big...
