"Clever and tasty" seasonal American-French fare in an "intimate" setting is the draw of this longtime Bucktown bistro; if some complain the "close" seating is "not conversation-friendly", loyalists point instead to moderate tabs and say "well-meaning" staffers contribute to the overall "good vibe."

Cafe Absinthe Restaurant Review

The entrance is off an alley behind the restaurant on North Avenue, though locals are well aware of this longstanding address. It’s the kind of go-to place that makes it hard to isolate recommendations --- the menu changes fairly often, but more often than not satisfies with what’s familiar enough: foie gras, rack of lamb and the like. When available, it’s always a safe bet to start with the...

The birth of Bucktown/Wicker Park's stylized dining scene is most credited to this global eatery crammed between neighborhood watering holes and crummy apartments at the Six Corners. While Caf Absinthe's prices have always been on the high side, its servers appear to go out of their way to keep a low profile with diners. They're not the most attentive, but the food makes up for it,...

A Wicker Park favorite for fine dining in a romantic, intimate atmosphere.

My wife's Australian Rack of Lamb was excellent, as always. My Duck Breast was awful. Tough and Grisly. Very disappointing. This was our fourth visit and possibly the last.

Food was good but needs more selection

We've been here several times and it has always been hopping but this time it was rather quiet. They have changed the menu and, although the food was excellent, the menu is limited. Not a good selection of appetizers and need a few more selections for entrees. The wine list is limited, as well. Most of the tables filled up by 8 but they did not turn over. We were the last table to leave and had...

Excellent Experience - parking terrible

It was a great dinner in a romantic setting. However Wicker Park is booming and street parking is a nightmare. There is no valet parking. Get a ride there or take public transport. A good side of that choice is also the ability to have another if their excellent cocktails.
