1928, single-screen, 2nd run movie palace!
This dazzling movie palace was built in the early 20th century. Italian marble and elegantly painted murals fill the interior. A balcony and theater boxes overlook the auditorium below and on Saturday evenings, a Wurlitzer organ, which once accompanied silent movies, is played. The audience can sing along; the words are displayed on the screen. The staff dresses in 1920s clothing. Second-run...

Enjoyed a showing of "Joy" (Jennifer Lawrence) this past weekend at the Byrd. This majestic movie palace is undergoing a slow renovation that will be absolutely stunning when eventually completed. … Enjoyed a showing of "Joy" (Jennifer Lawrence) this past weekend at the Byrd. Beautiful theatre. Very well run. Very well preserved. All employees/volunteers take great pride. I can't praise this venue enough.
The theater is beautiful, very rustic. A great view, however, the employees are by far the worst people to deal with. The general manager is pathetically rude. Why on earth are you that way at such a beautiful establishment?

The Byrd's unique atmosphere (and balcony) make it a great place to take a date, but this is also a great movie theater for kids.
Sodas, bottled water and the typical popcorn and candy fare will keep you munching.
Nominated for Best Movie Theater for its history and bargain rates.
