Dr. Craig is an excellent Vet, He treats every animal like it's his. That's why I’ve been taking my animals to him for the last 12 years and wont go anywhere else. No nonsense, no sales pitch for expensive tests that you don’t need, just big a heart, fair pricing.
My two month old puppy was bitten by a brown recluse spider and the damage was severe, very severe. Being a new dog owner, I did not have an established vet so I took my puppy to the vet at Petsmart and to the Emergency Vet Clinic on Sonterra. Needless to say I paid a tremendous amount of money and received no answers. My puppy's skin was literally falling off and none of the vets knew why. When I took my puppy to Bulverde Bexar, Craig very quickly identified the bite and started immediate treatment. Craig then saw my puppy every day for four days without charging me for visits (how many vets are willing to do that). It was very clear that his utmost concern was to help Samson heal. Samson has almost fully recovered (it has taken two months for him to heal) and I owe all the credit to Craig. A lot of vets in San Antonio have clean, white clinic coats, fancy and expensive office space, and run their vet practice like a business (i.e. they want to bring in a lot of revenue). Craig is different. He cares about the animals more than he cares about how fancy his clinic is. He wants to keeps costs low for the owners so he doesn't need the flashy location. He also knows his stuff inside and out so there is not a need to run endless tests. Craig is the only vet I will ever use.
I understand both the positive and negative reviews for these vets. The "quirky personality" is a definite fact! Craig and Leslie have tons of clients who swear by them, and they also do a great deal of work for Animal Friends Humane Society. I've seen them do great work in all areas, and I know they are the least expensive vets in town. That being said, you do get what you pay for, and here you pay for what you ask for.
If financial restrictions determine your pet's care, this is the place to go. If your pet is sick, they will treat the illness. They are also great for heart worm testing and treatment. I would recommend SNAP or ARC for spay/neuter, vaccines and disease testing if cost is your deciding factor, but this is the place to go if money is tight and a pet is sick or injured. In my experience, they do not do the comprehensive exam my preferred vet would do in the same situation, but they also cost much, much less.
Personally my experiences with Craig have been far more negative, and I find Leslie much better to deal with. They both work very hard and do not charge as much as they could get away with. I do not like this clinic and will not return to them with my own pets, but will continue to refer people to them who are looking for low-cost solutions for their pets' care.
I can say we've been seeing Dr Elbel with our animals for the past 10 years or so...and even though we've moved an hour South of Dr Elbel, we still make the trip back to see him, when one of our animals needs vetting.
Dr Craig Elbel and Leslie Deagan, and great vets, they DO have sorta quirky personalities, but they are EXCELLENT VETS! And once you get to know them, you'll love them for their quirky personalities.
I'm highly satisfied with their service, and will continue to make the hour and a half drive to visit them, because they go above and beyond for our animals...something no other vet has ever done before, for us...and that has totally won our loyalty.
One star because it's required. I took my pet here to get her shots. The girl in the front did not smile once and was rude to me when I asked questions. I've heard some complaints about the female...
I took my 5 year old miniature schnauzer yesterday and walked in without an appointment. I was immediately greeted by the friendly front desk staff who signed me in. Even though there were 4 other...
My pup was old and sick and had to be put down. They were very kind and let me sit with her until I was ready to let her go. Didn't charge for office visit, just for the cremation. They helped a...
Service is by arrival w/out appointments, but your pet actually sees the veterinarian. Unlike Cibolo Canyon, we didn't feel pressured to get unnecessary services. Not going back to Cibolo Canyon.
They are worth the wait! Great prices loving people. Crazy busy sometimes but if you go in knowing it might be awhile they are awesome.
