"So inventive and it all works" say foodies who "crave" the "always tasty, never boring" fare at chef-owner Bill Kim's Humboldt Park "hipster" haven, offering a "limited" yet "extraordinary" menu of "solidly executed" Asian dishes with Nuevo Latino accents, capped off with "must"-try soft-serve; "affordable" tabs match the "über-casual" digs, and "BYO never hurts either."

Bill Kim Chats About the First Year of BellyQ

BellyQ was a red-hot project long before it opened in the old One Sixtyblue space on the far west end of Randolph Row. Much larger in scope than Kim's first two street food-inspired eateries, Belly Shack and Urbanbelly, he partnered with Cornerstone Restaurant Group and Michael Jordan to bring his cuisine to a larger audience by offering a more approachable menu, accessible location, larger...

Located under the Blue Line tracks, this BYOB from Bill Kim hits head-on with full-flavored Latin and Asian notes.

Belly Shack Restaurant Review: Bill Kim (Urban Belly) and his Puerto Rican wife, Yvonne Cadiz-Kim, pooled their flair for flavor at this oft-surprising, hip spot with counter service and an industrial edge. A long communal table anchors the urban-feeling space, which is adorned with graffiti-like details on walls. Smaller tables and stools line the perimeter, filling with foodies and...

I used to not like belly shack (or urban belly) but have ordered from belly shack twice in the last week and it's been good. You can get authentic asian for slightly cheaper at other places but it's near my house and the donuts are delicious. Delivery is also super fast.

Simply delicious. They have a limited menu, but daily specials. The food is cooked to order and the staff is very polite! I had the lemon grass chicken gyro and loved it. A lot of my fellow zomans got the burger with egg! The fries were too good to be true.

A great spot to indulge in the flavors flavors of East Asian and Latin American cuisine. Belly Shack is a casual dining spot that offers traditional fare such as sandwiches and fries with unique twists in the form of spices, vegetables, and broths. Tostones are available alongside Udon noodles, and the unexpected combination of flavors won't disappoint.

If you dig a low-key, lights-down-low interior with an atypical menu, Bill Kim's Korean-Latin fusion restaurant Belly Shack is worth a stop.  Right at the Western Blue Line stop, Belly Shack is paradoxically BYOB yet they still serve alcohol.  It's also counter service, which I like, because it speeds up the whole process of eating (no long waits for a check or listening to a long spiel on...

The Extras: Chef Kim partnered with local pastry chef extraordinaire Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate on the bacon chocolate chips, fresh-baked blondies and mint brownies that top cups of soft-serve ice cream.

Fun Fact: Kim's first foray into street fare, the acclaimed Urban Belly in Avondale, has a cult following for its complex, flavor-packed noodle soups and dumplings.
