Beacon Hill was a short walk from the Taj Boston on Arlington. Just across Boston Public Garden and turn left at Charles Street. The gas lights are on 24x7 — I believe it's too expensive to have them switched on and off manually. The streets are quaint and Charles street is lined with old brick houses, boutiques and antique shops...
There are many historic buildings here, but it's also a lovely place to wander. Charles Street in particular is very nice, with many intriguing streets leading from it.
It used to be a bigger hill but they used a lot of it to create the Back Bay district.
This is really a hill. Please be sure to wear sneakers for the climb. when you get to the top its very refreshing and to see jfk waiting for you.
