Basil's Charleston location continues the work of the flagship North Carolina location, showcasing tasty Thai to visitors of the city's Historic Downtown district. Basil's menu will be familiar to Thai aficionados although a few standouts such as the Basil Duck and Pad Thai keep locals coming back regularly. There are a number of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on offer, although there's an...

Basil Thai Cuisine Restaurant Review

Wait time is taken in stride at this popular see-and-be-seen King Street landmark. The contemporary interior sets the mood with culturally suggestive imagery framed on the walls. Chef Suntorn Cherdchoongarm produces reasonably priced plates of spicy beef larb and curried duck; an array of fresh stir-fries are mildly spiced with more heat on request. Red, green and massaman curries with a choice...

There's a reason that this corner restaurant in the heart of downtown has been lauded again and again for its Asian fare. Dinner hours generate extended wait times—no reservations allowed—as patrons angle for an outdoor or window table. From the exposed glassed-in kitchen emerge popular specialties such as tom aban talay, a hot-and-sour mixed seafood soup flavored with Kaffir lime leaves,...

Base is a very busy place, but they took our party of 8 and fit us in for a late dinner. Nice service and great food.

Simply can't be beat. On a recent visit we took a friend who was visiting from Los Angeles. This is a guy very well traveled both domestically and throughout Asia. He commented after dinner that it was the best Thai food he'd had in or outside of LA and Thailand.
If you like Thai, or even if you're a newbie...

This was our second Thai dinner in Charleston last weekend and we enjoyed it! We were sitting at the 'kitchen bar' where we could see the chefs in action and preparing the food. Was interesting to see how quickly they churn out the dishes! We ordered the Thai chicken noodles and Garlic pepper chicken and both were excellent. Good location...

My wife and I along with my family frequent there and when friends and family visit Charleston, Basil is usually on the list. The service is always good and we are never disappointed with our choices. Find a...

Sit at the bar and watch them cooking the food, it's really cool. Restaurant was full but we were able to sit at the bar - Pad Thai and Massaman Chicken were excellent. Love the presentation of the Tom Yum Soup (very tasty). When we return to Charleston, we will definitely give Basil another visit.
