Editorial reviews from the web (3)

At a time when frenetic, scenester restaurants seem to be the norm, the notion of channeling Thoreau is a refreshing departure, especially for Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Jamie Gray, a designer turned restaurateur, created a pleasantly stylish setting, with some Shaker references, for a simple, seasonal menu by Ben Winans, who was at Diner and Pure Food & Wine. — Florence Fabricant

Petite nabe spot keeps it simple. Understated but spot-on décor, as to be expected from the owner of the design shop Matter. White-walled room, intimate bar lit by dangling globe lamps. Snack on deviled eggs, housemade pickles, pretzels with cheese. Small plate menu shifts with the seasons. Hen-of-the-woods and squash, braised pork shoulder with watermelon and poblano.

Citysearch Editorial Profile

In a small, historic-feeling dining room with lace curtains, stuffed pheasants and other country-house details, a hip Brooklyn crowd sits down to hearty, rustic meals.

Yummy with caveats

I've been twice now and have to say they make a damn good sandwich. There are a couple things to keep in mind. The first time I had the pork loin sandwich and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. I feel like $11 was more than it should cost, but definitely willing to splurge from time to time. Today they had porchetta instead of the pork loin. The skin was not crispy, just impossibly...
