Though it sounds like something out of Disney World, the Atlanta Cyclorama was created in the 1880s, and the concept -- a huge, 360-degree cylindrical painting viewed from a rotating platform -- dates from a century earlier. Cycloramas were the rage of 18th- and 19th-century Europe, Russia, Japan, and, later, the United States, depicting subject matter ranging from the splendors of Pompeii to...

I grew up in Atlanta and always when we went to the Zoo we had to make a trip to the Cyclorama- it's right by the Zoo and there is so much Atlanta history here! Never gets old
We used to go see this regularly as kids. It is historic, impressive and definitely worth a visit if you place any value in art and history.
Went there several times growing up. It was a great window into the past. It is closed and being relocated. I can only hope the new location lives up to the past. It is worth a visit for anyone who even remotely has an interest in history.
This is a circular miniature creation of several Civil War battles. It is highly detailed. The descriptions are informative. The circular seating moves ever so slowly in the middle of the display. It's a one time thing worth seeing.
Dad took me there when I was a kids. Took two young people there last weekend and was so disappointed. Just a big picture. NOT worth the time or the money. Never go back. Never recommend.

The museum also has pieces from the Civil War and is home to the Texas Steam Locomotive.

Visitors can relax while they revolve around scenes of the battle. As they watch, areas of the painting will light up, and they hear...
A 360 degree look at history - Cycloramas, 360 degree paintings enhanced by multimedia effects and faux terrain extending 30 feet from the painting into the foreground, were the forerunners of newsreels, travelogues, and TV war coverage. This cyclorama, created in the 1880s, depicts the events of the Battle of Atlanta, on July 22, 1864.
