Entering Arun's Thai Restaurant for the first time, you are transported to the exotic land of the Thais. The restaurant's beautiful interior reflects the harmonious balance of contemporary simplicity and classical elegance. Cut and patterned panels of deep mahogany and other wood frame walls of vibrant color. Lustrous Thai silks and exquisite classical Thai paintings sparkle and delight. Take a...
With Arun's innovative Chef's Designed Menu, Arun ignites the rich and inexhaustible traditions of Thai cooking with his own imaginative flair. Arun's offers subtle spicing and intricately balanced flavors in striking presentations. The Chef's Designed Menu is prix fixe degustation, in which the chef presents series of dishes as a "tasting menu", tailored to the preferences of each diner's...
Beautiful Thai art and antiques set the stage for seven-, 10- and 12-course prix-fixe dining ($75, $85, $100) with or without wine pairings ($50) at chef/owner Arun Sampanthavivat's Northwest side restaurant. A customized procession of multiple appetizers, entrées and desserts arrive at the table artfully prepared and served family-style. Starters have included flower-shaped purple dumplings...
"Upscale Thai" is "taken to its apex" at this Northwest Side "must-visit", where chef-owner Arun Sampanthavivat prepares "out-of-this-world" prix fixe dishes elevated by presentations straight "out of a picture book"; the traditionally decorated space may not soar quite as high, and tabs are "pricey", but "excellent" service helps ensure an overall "fine-dining" experience.
AAA has announced its Five Diamond Award recipients for 2013 and four Chicago restaurants have retained their rating. Alinea, Arun's, Everest and Tru all earned the award, tying the city with Las Vegas for the second-most behind New York. The Five Diamond restaurants remain unchanged from last year with the exception of Charlie Trotter's, which has since closed. All four have held the top...
Julia Kramer, Time Out Chicago: The most disappointing meal that I had this year, by a landslide, was at Charlie Trotter's. Since the restaurant then closed, it's not really optional whether I would return, but I would never have gone back or recommended it to anyone after that.
Jeff Ruby, Chicago Magazine: We never really were going out, but a one night stand at Jerry's Sandwiches was more...
Yes, Arun's is a Thai restaurant, but it's in a whole different league from the noodle shops scattered around the city. Here chef/owner Arun Sampanthavivat prepares a refined version of traditional Thai cuisine: authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Rather than order individual entrees, diners feast on a 12-course chef's menu served family-style, with the dishes varying from night to...
The food and presentation are excellent: "Royal Thai cuisine". Mr Arun is very friendly and personable.
World class service. Unique cuisine, an art form. Such a wonderful experience. We make a point to go every year and it never disappoints.
My husband and I have been coming to Arun's for at least 20 years and always liked it. We most recently ate there this past Friday evening which it turned out was the first night they were open after their recent renovation.
My wife and I went to Arun's for our 15th anniversary. We had wanted to go for years based on friends' reviews. The experience was wonderful. The 12 course meal offered a unique surprise with each new course. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a taste for well crafted, beautiful and tasty dishes.
Unfortunately, the $85 per person price was not worth the value at this restaurant. After waiting years to finally eat at Arun's, I was frankly quite disappointed. First off, for a 10 course meal, you are given 5 individual appetizers each, 3 main entrees which are supposed to be "family size" portions and "shareable" and 2 individual desserts each. To my dismay, the 3 entrees were NOT family...

Beautiful Thai Buddhist art greets the eye as you enter this dining establishment. A non-printed, $85...
This is visually stunning Thai cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds. The twelve-course tasting menu, though pricey, offers a consistently fantastic culinary tour with favorites like hot and sour soup, steamed rice dumplings stuffed with crab, and fried, bite-sized pastries filled with shrimp, chicken, and sweet corn. The upscale interior includes antiques and Thai paintings, many by the...
