A "favorite for sushi", this "hip, urban" West Town storefront delivers "fresh, imaginative" rolls alongside other highly rated Japanese dishes including small plates, noodles and robata grill items; service is "helpful" in the "relaxing" "spa"-like setting done up in bamboo and exposed brick, and prices are moderate.
The soothing setting at this West Town Japanese starts with a moss garden, giving way to a sunny, atrium-style dining room with bamboo accoutrements. Dishes have included togarashi-seared tuna with seaweed salad, kelp “noodles” and bright Meyer lemon dressing, and tender braised duck in an orange ginger reduction with pickled plum.
Arami, an old Japanese word that means garden, blends both traditional and modern cultures together with everyday cuisine in a contemporary setting. Chef B.K. Park (formerly of Mirai) focuses on Japanese fare that has gotten less play in the states: stews, donburi rice bowls and pickled vegetables, along with hand-crafted sushi. The space evokes the name with repurposed wood and leafy bamboo,...
There’s an abundance of Americanized Asian eats in the city, but finding authentic stuff like kimchi ramen--a blend of tofu, pork belly and a poached egg that’s served in a sizable black pot and...
Fantastic food and drink. Very unique. The design is gorgeous and the food is top notch.
The service was good and our waiter very accomidating. I can't comment on the taste of the food, because I have nothing to compare it to. The waiter quickly translated the Manu for us, because I didn't understand the subheadings. I did like that the menu had descriptions of the food in English, but I didn't know what the items were because I haven't had sushi before. It was also very cold in...
Very good food, but pricey and portions are on the small size. Service was good and drinks from the bar were amazing.
In town from New York. One of the best sushi meals I've ever had. Food was incredible - simple and creative. Service was right on point. Beautifully designed space. Can't wait to return.
Fantastic quality sushi. They are great about gluten free and even gave a nice treat for a birthday celebration.

Newer sushi spot .. recommended by the bartender at Maude's as "the best"! -

We stopped by Friday around 8pm .. with no reservation, and we seated in the front room by the bar. Music was a bit loud, and our chairs were an obstacle for the servers passing by. The waitress was very knowledgable .. but a bit too eager for our mood at the time. Service seemed erratic at times. ...
Arami has a great Japanese menu that delights any palate. The restaurant does get crowded, so a reservation would be wise. The service is efficient and prompt. The staff is well-informed about the menu and make some great suggestions. Must-try is the tuna Togarashi.
Traditional Japanese comfort food and sushi bar in West Town.
The owners, brothers Ty and Troy Fujimura, built out the space themselves. They drew their inspiration from their childhood and their grandparents’ Japanese market in Hawaii.
Hooray for a spot that’s slightly off the beaten path (for now)! Street parking abounds, from metered spots on Chicago Avenue to a mixture of permit-only and non-permit side streets.
Settle in to a stool along the well-let sushi bar for a chance to watch chef B.K. Park (formerly of Mirai) perform his art. Order the omakase menu, let Park tailor a meal to your tastes and enjoy the ride.
