Help us make it rightThe food tasted like a chain and like it was right out of a can! Spices were not blended, and was nothing like I expected after dining in New Orleans. A sad try at cajun cuisine.
Anyone expecting true gumbo will be sorely disappointed, What they will get instead is an overly salty tasteless mishmash. Avoid this place or regret wasting your money.
The voo doo chicken was FABULOUS. There were so many samples of different types of gumbo and they allowed us to taste them all. It was hard to decide which to choose. The portions were HUGE and we had some to take home.
The name of the place seems to be a turn-off for a lot people and it was for me before I went. However, the food is amazing and extremely affordable. I would recommend getting the bowl of whichever stew you desire. It comes with rice and is extremely filling for just under $7. You can also try the stews before...
The ex-jockey who owns this company does a great job recreating Cajun dishes in masse for distribution to franchisee's like this one. I've had the Drunken Chicken , VooDoo Chicken and Gumbo, and can recommend all three.Prices are very reasonable. I hope they develop a following, as it's difficult to find good Cajun in W MA.
J Gumbos is located at 19 N Pleasant St, Amherst, MA..
This is a new restaurant between Antonio's and Subway (Both on TA) in Amherst MA.
